How about our Eagles being runner-up in the 2009 state championahip at the Dome!!  Their mentors were Head Coach:  Scott Surgener '81, whose mom, Joyce Ritz Surgener '47 (deceased) was also an alum.  Assistant Coaches:  Paul Haug, Jeff Manestar '84, Robert Findley '96 and Parent Volunteer:  Dan Williams '86.

The '09 Eagles' recent run for the Class 2 State Football Championship ended in a loss to Maryville Thanksgiving Friday, but members of the BHS Class of '66 found reason to celebrate anyway.  Meeting at Weber's in Webster Groves were Jim Dobernic, Marcia Hunsinger Werremeyer, Jim Ford, Jean Eves Anton, Bill Hippert, and Nelson Morgan.  They were joined by BHS Class of '68's Roy Richter.  After lunch, they headed to the Dome and joined a huge Brentwood crowd for the game.  Classmates enjoyed the day despite the loss, and Judge Roy took everyone on a tour of his courthouse in the Old Post Office after the game.

Brentwood football has had many glorious moments in the past, not the least being that first undefeated season in the fall of 1965.  The string eventually stretched to three straight years without a defeat.  BHS had earlier won conference titles in '60 and '62.  After the three year undefeated streak, the state began a playoff system and the Eagles reached the state semifinals in 1968.  They repeated that success in '79, and in '87 they played in their first state championship game prior to this year, a narrow loss to Seneca.  Brentwood also won various other conference and district championships; the latter coming in '76, '82, '88, '89, '94, '95, '97, and '07.  The eagles also reached the playoffs in '08 under the state's new runner-up program.  Several former Eagles have gone on to play at the next level, including current Mizzou senior defensive back, Hardy Ricks '05.  There's a lot to be proud of for the purple and gold.  Submitted by Nelson Morgan '66
